RMV sends electronic license renewal reminders

There is never enough time in the day, week, month or year to get done what you want to get done. The trick is to make sure you do what you need, and ensuring your driver’s license is up to date has to be on that list. The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles has stopped notifying people of when their licenses must be renewed, but drivers can receive an electronic reminder by e-mail, telephone or text message.

To receive notification, go to www.massdot.state.ma.us/rmv and click on the Free RMV Reminder Service icon to get started. Remember, you must be a license holder in good standing to participate. The RMV also has stopped mailing:

  • Vehicle inspection reminder letters.
  • Driver’s education certificates.
  • Junior operator brochures for parents.
  • Massachusetts identification renewal notices.
  • License reinstatement letters.
  • Registration reinstatement letters.
  • Inspector license renewal notices.
  • 7D license renewal notices.
  • Change of address labels.

Here's another way to cut down on snail mail

You know you have too much paper around the house or office. Using your computer to conduct as much personal and professional business as possible will reduce the clutter and help better the environment and Deland, Gibson is here to help.

Upon request, the agency will e-mail you instructions on how to access renewal insurance policies. You can make a request by sending an e-mail to info@delandgibson.com or calling 781.237.1515

Take every precaution possible when going on vacation

Clients who are planning to go on vacation this winter can take some fairly simple steps to reduce the chances of their homes being burglarized. We suggest that you:

  • Install exterior lights out of reach of would-be burglars and put indoor lights on a timer so your property is well-lit.
  • Lock windows and doors with deadbolts, which can slow down burglars and result in an insurance discount of 2 to 5 percent.
  • Consider putting in a burglar alarm. Systems connected to an outside service, where personnel alert emergency agencies are highly recommended. That step could result in another insurance discount of 15 to 20 percent.
  • Install outside doors and frames that are constructed with metal or solid hardwood and are at least 1¾-inches thick. A door must fit its frame securely, and garage doors also need strong locks.
  • Place valuables and important papers in a safe or lock box, and keep the key well-hidden or in your possession. Duplicates of important documents should be at another location such as a relative's home.
  • Have mail and packages picked up, forwarded or held by the post office.
  • Suspend the delivery of newspapers and ask a friend of neighbor to pick up circulars thrown in your driveway or yard.
  • Leave blinds or curtains in their usual positions to make it appear that you are home.
  • Ask someone close to you to keep an eye on your home while you are away.
  • Only inform people who need to know that you are going away.
