What's New In Commercial Lines
Sole Proprietors and Partnerships
Massachusetts laws have changed with respect to sole proprietors and partnerships. Certificates of Insurance for your clients will now show whether or not you have elected coverage on yourself. This could effect how you do business with your client as they may now require you to cover yourself before they do business with you. If you do not have coverage as the sole proprietor or partner, please contact our office for quote.
Workers’ Compensation Insurance Requirements
Massachusetts laws have changed with regard to sole proprietors and partnerships.
You need to obtain a valid Certificate of Insurance from your independent contractors and subcontractors stating the sole proprietor and/or partners have elected coverage under the Workers’ Compensation coverage. If you do not obtain these Certificates, you may be liable for independent contractors and subcontractors, sole proprietors or members of partnerships you hire who have coverage for their own employees, but have elected not to purchase coverage on themselves. Without the proper evidence, your Workers’ Compensation carrier could charge you for their payroll at audit.
